Hermitage"
is the name of President Andrew Jackson's (shown above) famed
estate just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Acquired by Jackson
in 1788, the land was improved with a series of one floor
log cabins by 1805. In 1819 Jackson built on the site a two
story brick home with one story wings, one of which extended
in the rear to form an ell. Hermitage was razed by fire in
1822 but rebuilt and today stands, a national shrine, exactly
as it was when Jackson lived there. The seventh President
of the United States died at the Hermitage 8 June, 1845.
